On the discourse of nostalgia in Garcilaso de la Vega and Bernal Díaz del Castillo

Abstract

The essay identifies the conclusion of subjectivity, belonging to autobiographical discurse, as a typical literary trait in the chroniclers of the Indies. From here, the sentiment of nostalgia is analyzed as an element for interpeting the past on the part of the chroniclers Bernal Díaz del Castillo and the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. We establish differences between the perspectives of both writers, based in their divergent biographical circunstances, to identify in continuation resources coincident with both chorniclers as the creation of fictitious interlocutors, the consciousness of mission to become spokespersons for a social elite affected by the arrival of newcomers, the projection of the past of a utopic vision or the oresence of visual and pictoric elements in the evocation of the past
