Resumen : José Juan Tablada has been considered as the introducer of haiku into Spanish and Hispanoamerican poetry. In this article the intent is to show how this is not exactly true, because previous examples are alleged. In any case, the meaning of Tablada’s contribution is studied. Tablada as a cultivator of this genre marks out new inroads, breaking with the conventional ideas of current poetry, and marking the paths by which poetic modernity will flow onward. This way, aside from signalling its connections with the Far East, in particular with Japan, the haikais are analyzed, connecting them with the Japanese paradigm, and describing its modelization and contextualizing its discoveries.
