The metaphor as a narrativo guideline in "Arenas movedizas": procedures for producing meaning

Abstract

In this paper, I propose that some of the texts of Arenas movedizas by Octavio Paz possess a narrative structure recognized by the author himself and are composed from a metaphor which possesses a narrative function; i.e, the meaning to be given to the related events depends on the interpretation of the metaphor, because the metaphor of these texts operates under a system of relatíonships that enrich the meaning of Ihe text and the metaphor itself. The metaphor appears as a nodal figure, llke the concepts of narrative and surreallsm, for the interpretatlon of some stories of this work.
