Sueño de evasión y libertad, entre la errancia y la utopía: La morada en el tiempo, de Esther Seligson

Abstract

This article analyzes the novel La morada en el tiempo (1981), by Esther Seligson, in its function of complete-undertaking. The text is written by way of an “I” who absorbs all of past time and sees the history of the Jewish diaspora from the present. According to Seligson, “this is an intent to re-write the Torah from the perspective of a contemporary Jeremiah.” It must be mentioned, on the other hand, that exile allows for thinking of the world in a different way; the sojourn in time can also be and access to the other field, of utopia, which is produced by a high spiritual state, by means of an inquiry to the hidden meanings of letters, as often occurs within the cabalistic tradition. The spiritual search redeems the mundane situation of persecution and bodily outrage.
