19th century Mexican magazines in América poética

Abstract

This article examines the incorporation of Mexican writers intothe anthology América poética (1846), compiled by Juan María Gutiérrez. Thepaper studies a paradox: México is one of the most represented countries in spiteof the weak connection that its intellectuals have with their South Americanpeers and the poor circulation of poems. The analysis of Mexican poets, theirwork and the publications from which they are extracted, gives way in turnto an analysis of the relationship between nineteenth-century journals and theideas of the generation of ’37.
