La costa del Golfo y el área maya ¿Relaciones imaginables o imaginadas?

Abstract

From a chronological perspective this work, without encyclopaedic pretensions, does nor only haveas a purpose a recount of the interrelationships that existed between the Huaxtec and the mayanareas, and of this last one with the gulf coast area in general. The author intends to draw attentionto the way, starting from a erroneous identification, in mesoamerican archaeology the have been constructed imaginary interpretations, even fantastic. Such theoretical outlook, which could be understood as fantastic imagination, is tried to be applied to interrelations such as the ones mentioned. This work is only an invitation for reflection in order not to construct hypothesis based on poorly founded suppositions, and leaving chronologies aside, to avoid thinking that presence is the sameas influence or similarity is the same as equivalency. To reassess questions that are assumed as unquestionable answers to ancient problems should make us rethink and consider easy explanations as constrained and non-reflexive. The issue is not to systematically doubt the last advances made inour discipline during the last years, or the explanations that are strongly founded: the work ratherintends to go beyond the speculative news without any other intention then to call the attention of those who do not know or have not yet analysed the problem.
