El espacio textual de Jesús Gardea

Abstract

The article analyzes the narrative of Jesús Gardea (Ciudad Delicias,1939 Mexico City, 2000) from the pivotal idea that rural and desertic areas of northern Mexico -where most of his stories take place- are converted into the textual space. These areas are the constructive and generating axis from which the narrative elements stem in his textual aesthetics. Based on William Rowes theoretical statements about the importance of considering elements beyond the linguistic sign in textual interpretation-such as music in the prose of jose MarfaArguedas, or pain in Cesar Vallejospoetry-, the article shows the desertic space in Gardeas work as a constructive and permeating component of his prose. thus, the presence of thedesert is not only explicit but also implicit in the barrenness that deter·mines both contents and form in Gardeas narrative.
